Continuing her ongoing collaboration with VFX artist Tristan Jalleh, the audiovisual show for DIWA is inspired by various Filipino creation mythologies, including ancestral beliefs about the ‘skyworld’ and craters and caves as the portals to the underworld. Corin takes inspiration from her matrilineal ancestry connected to the volcanic crater lake Taal ’. The audience moves through different stages of volcano formation, immersive underwater landscapes and lightning eruptions. A collision of earth, lava and water, and a submerging of supernatural and geological forces spanning the granular to the colossal reveals biomorphic shapes and lava sculptures of mythological creatures such as the mysterious ‘Bakunawa’ dragon moon-eater. Whereas Lux Aeterna (CORIN’s previous AV show) elevated us to the heavens, DIWA submerges us deep into the underworld.
